Stanley traveled to Egypt & the middle east the previous year, he became Dean of Westminster abbey. A rare early map of Ireland by the famous Blaeu family of Amsterdam possibly the most important cartographers of there time, centre fold with a fairly large but not heavy damp stain at the bottom, & small tear just above the cartouche, trimed close to the plate mark but still showing. A very fine cartouche and decorated milage scale, complete with a rural scene of two sheep and two young shepherds, surmounted by the Irish harp below a Royal Crown , a second cartouche is in the top right hand corner with the British heraldic shield showing the crests of England, Scotland, Wales, & Ireland flying the St Georges Cross flags with another Royal Crown. A handsome map with early or possibly contemporary hand fine colouring. Provenance= from the library of THE MACDERMOT , Prince of Connaught, Coolavin Co sligo who is named on the map. RARE. This was owned by Filicity Madam Macdermot of Coolavin Co Sligo who came from Devon and was related th the author but having said that, it is not mentioned in the book.

1845 First Edition Hard Back Quarter Leather. Very Good 4to - over 9 - 12" tall W h Bartlett 
A scarce copy of this sort after illustrated book of harbour and port views with very fine engraved illustrations by Bartlett, 24 plates with descriptive comments and 17 plates without comment . Handsomely bound & polished in contemporay tan leather with raised bands & black title label gilt title and embelishments in the compartments , fancy gilt lines to edges of the leather ruling to dark green buckrum boards, all front end papers missing last endpaper with 3x2" square corner cut out, first paste down covered in a pencilled drawing of were the books are to be shevelved in the new oak book cases in the library of Coolavin house & other room scribblings we obtained this book from the said library of Coolavin house Co Sligo, home of The MacDermot Prince of Coolavin. The book is a very handsome book & the plates and text are in very good condition. Book is becoming sarce as it is mostly broken up for the very fine plates.
