A fabulous set in original very fine highly decorated leather bindings the two volume set is superbly decorated , the spine with raised bands diced blind decoration to the compartments two marroon labels with gilt titles and vol numbers, front and rear boards with double gilt & blind rulings and patterned rulings a large blind stamped middle decoration and diced decoration , please ask for photographs marbled end papers & all edges. Old fine family book plate on fpd gift inscription on fep. Half tiltle with very foxed engraving, all plates have some greying or foxing to the margins not effecting the plates, Volume 1 has a b&w map of Ireland profusely illustrated all complete in both volumes, Slip case is relatively new but very well done with marbled boards. This is the scarce large paper reprint set, with 20 illustrations by Thomas Stothard & engraved by C Heath as called for.These have been very handsomely rebound in full dark brown leather wtith raised bands gilt ruling to the same, red title and vol labels gilt titles and sailing ships in two compartments and Robinson under the shade of a tree with his dog in the other two compartments date at base all in gilt, marbled endpapers new endpapers. A faded contemporary ink signature on the title page & pencilled writing the top of the preface page of vol 1 and again on half title & rear of frontis vol 2, this volume has old water staining from the half title stretching almost halfway across the page becoming less apparrent through to page 97. A list of Defoes works stretching to some ten pages follows the long Preface . Vol 1 429pp. vol 2 415pp.

The Rehearsal as it is now acted at the theatre Royal , by George , lthe bate Duke of Buckingham. to which is added a key or critical view of the authors and their writings expos`d in this play. Lond printed for J Brindley, book seller in new Bond st, S Birt , C Hitch, T Osborne , T Waller, C Corbett, R New, 1755 fifteenth edition 59 pp. plus the Key that critical view of the authors 24pp. The way of the world a comedy, written by Mr Congreve, printed for J Tonson, sold by W Feales at Rows head the corner of Essex st the Strand London 8299. Love for Love A comedy, written by Mr Congreve printed by J & R Tonsen & S Draper London 106pp. each play has an engraving with a scene from the play, the Congreve title pages have a vignette of him in an oval frame. Bound in contemorary calf with raised bands gilt title and embelishments to the compartments now all very faded git ruling to the outside of the boards hinges `weak and starting but holding well.
